Unfair

Two years back, I got unfairly passed over for a promotion at work, in the name of "experience", they said, its not how much work you do that counts but for how long you've been doing it.

That's when this was written. I also voiced my concern to my manager and 2 months later I was given the raise! So speaking up definately helps..

Life is unfair on many grounds
At many levels in many rounds
You do your best but thats not enough
For those who win will cheat and bluff

For something that i believed in body and soul
The return on investment has left me cold
Thank-you for all your hard work they say
But your peers are the ones we'll pay

While assigning work, you come first
But when assigning dues we'll make you thirst
All said and done i didnt get my due
Let that be known as my point of view

They say everything happens for the good
But to know when and where I'm not in the mood
In life i think one should have a blast
The real workers will always finish last

The Malady of the Indian Wife

This poem , I believe, was written after I had a discussion with some of my girlfriends where we compared our lives with that of our moms. And while our mom's in no-way had it easy, we found that neither do we.

The 20th century Indian wife
Made her husband and children her only life
She put her smarts into the house
Being the bread winner was the role of her spouse

She cooked and cleaned as a full time job
In raising good kids she was no slob
Being the perfect house-wife her only duty
That and keeping her external beauty

The 21st century indian wife
Decided she would make her own life
She used her smarts in the outside world
The entire world at her feet curled

Now she got the butter for the bread her husband earned
And she hoped her husband understood (he who was so learned)
That now that she worked as hard as he
Her work at home could not be the same as his mom's would be

But such is the malady of the Indian wife
Regardless of the century, housework is part of her life
So now she cooks, cleans and also earns money
If that is'nt sad it surely aint funny

Mona

This poem was written for my then soon-to-be-sister-in-law - Mona, on the eve of her wedding.

M is for Mischievous and as funny as can be
O is for outstanding,Sweet and Carefree
N is for that niceness that shows in her smile
A is for Adorable and without guile

These things together make my sister-in-law
A beautiful person without any flaw
Her life is soon going a whole new way
To her the following things, i have to say

I have not got a chance, to know you better
But I know that you are a smart go-getter
A person who stands out from the crowd
The fact that I know you makes me proud

As you get ready for marriage, do remember
In your mothers heart you are a life member
Your father loves you and always will
And your brother your every wish will fulfill

As you go forth, in your new life
Be an ever smiling and a loving wife
May all your wishes and desires come true
May there never be a time when you feel blue

With these lines I send you my love
All our good-wishes in this poem wove
Knowing you has been my pleasure
You are and always will be our family treasure

January 9th

This Poem was written when my nana passed away. I was here in the US and I felt sorely alone on this day when a person very close to me passed away, I felt the same again early this year when my dada passed away too.

This Poem is dedicated to my Nana and my Dada..

There is a odd kind of feeling this morning
A feeling of peace yet that of mourning
My heart tells me to let it out
My mind tells me to scream and shout

I lost a loved one this day forever
A person I cannot forget, not now not ever
My only regret is I could not be there
On his last journey from earth to I know not where

I take solace in knowing he is with our maker
Happy and Content with the very best care-taker
I salute him and celebrate a life well lived
His life so beautiful and all his wishes fullfilled

To all of us that he leaves behind in sorrow
Let us get close together today, for who has seen tomorrow
Death is a reality it will come for one and all
But living to the fullest till that time comes is your call

Looking down at us from above is He who is gone
May his blessings shower down and give us all the strength to move on
